Capsular Patterns Flashcards
Talocalcaneal (subtalar)
Increasing limitations of varus; joint fixed in valgus (inversion>eversion)
Talocrural
Loss of plantarflexion greater than dorsiflexion
First Metatarsophalangeal
Marked limitation of extension; slight limitation of flexion
Interphalangeal
Tend toward extension restrictions
Hip
Limited flexion/IR; some limitation of abduction; no or little limitation of Adduction and ER
Thoracic Spine
Limitation of side-bending and rotation>loss of extension>flexion
Humeroulnar
Loss of flexion more so than extension
Upper Extremity Digits
Limitation: flexion>extension
Metatarsophalangeal II-V
Variable; tend toward flexion restrictions
Trapeziometacarpal
Limitation: abduction more so than extension
Acromioclavicular
Full elevation limited; pain at extreme ROM
Atlantoaxial
Limitation with rotation
Humeroradial
Loss of flexion more so than extension
Midtarsal
Supination>pronation (limited dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, adduction, and medial rotation)
Proximal Radioulnar
Limitation: pronation=supination
Glenohumeral
Greater limitation of ER, followed by abduction, and IR
Midcarpal
Limitation: equal all directinos
Knee
Flexion grossly limited; slight limitation of extension
Tibiofibular (Proximal & Distal)
Pain when joint is stressed
Wrist
Limitation: flexion=extension
Sternoclavicular
Full elevation limited; pain at extreme ROM
Lumbar Spine
Marked and equal limitation of side-bending and rotation; loss of extension>flexion
Distal Radioulnar
Limitation: pronation=supination
Sacroiliac, Symphysis Pubis, Sacrococcygeal
Pain when joints are stressed
Temporomandibular
Limited mouth opening
Occipitoatlantal
Forward flexion limited greater than extension
Lower Cervical Spine (C3-T2)
Limitation of all motions except flexion (side-bending and rotation equally limited and both greater than extension)
Carpometacarpals II-V
Equally restricted all directions
