Define BEM
Basic Empty Mass is the mass of an aeroplane plus standard items such as; unusable fuel and other unusable fluids; lubricating oil in engine and auxiliary units; fire extinguishers; pyrotechnics; emergency oxygen equipment; supplementary electronic equipment.
Define DOM
The Dry Operating Mass is the total mass of the aeroplane ready for a specific type of operation excluding usable fuel and traffic load. The mass includes items such as:
- Crew and crew baggage
- Catering and removable passenger service equipments
- Portable water and lavatory chemicals
- Food and beverages
Define MSLM
Maximum Structural Landing Mass is the maximum permissible total aeroplane mass on landing in normal circumstances.
Define MSTOM
The Maximum Structural Take Off Mass is the maximum permissible total aeroplane mass at the start of the take-off run.
Define The Maximum Structural Taxi Mass
This is the structural limitation of the mass of the aeroplane at commencement
Define the MZFM
The Maximum Zero Fuel Mass is the maximum permissible mass of an aeroplane with no usable fuel
Define the Operating Mass
This is the DOM plus Ramp Fuel but without traffic load
Define PLLM
The Performance Limited Landing Mass is the mass subject to the landing aerodrome limitations.
Define PLTOM
The performance limited Take-Off Mass is the take-off mass subject to departure aerodrome limitations
Define TOM
The Take-Off Mass is the mass of the aeroplane including everything and everyone contained within it at the start of the take-off run.
Define Taxi Mass/Ramp Mass
Taxi Mass is the mass of the aeroplane including at the start of the taxi(at departure from the loading gate).
Sometimes referred to as the ramp mass.
Define Traffic Load
Traffic Load is the total mass of passengers, baggage and cargo, including any “non-revenue load”
Define ZFM
The Zero Fuel Mass is the DOM plus traffic load but excluding fuel.
