Increased oestrogen

How does candidiasis present?
Thick, white discharge
No smell
Vulval itching, irritation or discomfort
Severe
Fissures
Dyspareunia
Dysuria
Excoriation
What investigations are done for candidiasis?
Normally treatment given based on the presentation
Vaginal pH
Trichomonas - > 4.5
Candidiasis- < 4.5
How is candidiasis treated?
Antifungal cream (clotrimazole) into vagina
Antifungal pessary
Oral fluconazole
Canesten Duo
Standard OTC contains fluconazole and clotrimazole
What do women need to be warned of when given antifungal creams?
Can damage latex condoms and prevent spermicides working
Use alternative contraception for 5 days
