what is a tumour?
•the uncontrolled growth and division of cells due to a result of changes that occur in cells
•This forms a large cluster of cells called a tumour.
what are benign tumours?
•tumours that grow until there’s no more room
•they stay in one place, usually with a membrane and do not invade other tissues in the body
what are malignant tumours?
*tumours that grow and spread to neighbouring healthy tissue
*cells can break off and spread to other parts of the body by travelling in the bloodstream invading healthy tissue elsewhere in the body forming secondary tumours
are malignant tumours cancerous?
yes
are benign tumours cancerous?
no
why have cancer survival rates increase?
*medical advances such as improved treatment
*being able to diagnose cancer earlier
*increased screening for the disease

how can genetics be a risk factor for cancer?
people can inherit faulty genes that make them more susceptible to cancer
