Campylobacter Flashcards
When are there peaks in Camp?
Summer due to chickens, temperature
What are some symptoms of Camp?
Gastroenteritis Brain Absecesses Periodontis Guillian Barre.Miller Fischer Inflammatory Bowel Disease Esophageal Bacteremia
What are the pathogeniticyt factors>
Motility Adhesion of CadF Protein secretion and invasion Actin polymerization Toxin production
CadF is a fibronectin binding proteins
PEB1 is a periplasmic binding protein
J1pA is a surface exposed lipoprotein
CiaB is an exported virulence factor
What toxin does Campylobacter produce?
Cytolethal distending toxin (Cdt) - ABC
binds to cell membrane, allows for entry, reaches nulceus and destorys the cell
- increased permeablity of the epithelium and results in diarrhea
Explain Guillian Barre Syndrome
Symptoms begin with motor and sensory deifictis in lower extremities
Thought to develop antibodies against certain antigens in the bacteria LPS that cross react with peripheral nerve cell gangliosides
Attacke myelin sheath and expose nerve fibers
How to reduce CAmpylobacter?
Educating farmers No thinning of broiler Biosecurity Age of broilers at processing Fly netting
