Why did Mao introduce the Campaigns?

A
  • To establish a one party state (politicial parties banned 1952)
  • Destroy bourgouise and create one class (peasents)
  • obtain controll over buissnes
  • Extend CCP power across China,
  • destroy intellectuals and indipendant thought
  • Denounce capitalists and GMD, create anti Capitalist/GMD sentiment

Aid Korea resist America

A

Who were the targets:
* American figures like Truman and general MacArthur were shown as bloody ghouls
* Mao potrayed Americand and ‘savages’ and ‘murderers’ helping to incite patriotism for China
* Gave Mao and excuse to persecute opponents under the guise of treason

What happend to them:
* The peoples daily published lists of political criminals alongside gruesome details of their punishment
* In 1951, the government documented 135,000 official executions and 800,000 counter-revolutionary executions.

What were the consquences:
* increased support/respect for the PLA
* Mao mpressed and gained respect from the Stalin.
