A
- Depigmentation of fiber
- Wire texture
- Poor growth
- Predisposed to disease
- Dietary supplementation required

What causes dorsal nasal alopecia in camelids? What clinical signs are associated? How is it treated?
A
- Dark nose syndrome – seen in dark coloured animals
- Dermatitis on bridge of nose
- Scaley, hyperpigemented, thickened
- Burrowing mites
- Skin scrapes/biopsy
- Parasite treatment +/- steroids – topical or systemic

What causes zinc responsive dermatosis in camelids? What clinical signs are associated? How is it treated?
A
- Idiopathic hyperkeratosis
- Any age
- Non pruritic papules with tightly adherent crust
- Less densely haired areas or perineum, ventral abdomen, inguinal region, medial thighs, axilla, medial forearms, face
- Skin biopsy
- Treatment – oral zinc sulfate/ topical zinc shampoos

What ectoparasites are camelids prone to? How are they diagnosed? How are they treated?
A
- Sarcoptes, Psoroptes, Chorioptes, Demodex
◦ Alopecia
◦ Hyperkeratosis
◦ Scaling
◦ Puritis
◦ Differential = zinc deficiency
◦ Skin biopsies
◦ Ivermectin repeated q14 days IM/SC – not oral
Biting Damalinia breviceps and Sucking Microthoracius cameli
* Sellotape test
* Sucking treatment – Ivermectine
* Biting treatment – topical pyrethrin
Ticks
* Tick paralysis
* Inner ear issues leading to Horners syndrome +/- encephaltic death
