Aetiology
A
- Listeria infection and associated immune response
- Associated with silage feeding (especially big bale silage)

Epidemiology
A
- Morbity rate can be > 25% (affected herd)
- Prevalence 8% (affected herd)

Pathogenesis
A
- Initial stage: marked lachrymation blepharospasm
- Later stages: severe inflammatory changes, including iris folding and the development of a bluish opacity in the cornea
- Focal fibrin aggregations in the anterior chamber

Clinical presentation
A
- Often unilateral
- Corneal oedema +/ vascularisation
- Hypopyon/aqueous flare/fibrin
- Iris swelling, miosis
- Pain
- Vision loss
- Disease course 7-10 days

A
- History
- Clinical examination
- Conjunctival swabs (culture and PCR)

Treatment
A
- Anti-inflammatories
- Topical cloxacillin
- Subconjunctival oxytetracycline

- Improve silage management/feeding
