Define a caesarean section

A

An operative procedure done under anesthesia, whereby the fetus, placenta and membranes are delivered through an incision made in the abdominal wall and uterus

What are the different categories of EMCS (define them)?

A
1= immediate threat to life
2= maternal or fetal compromise but no immediate threat to life
3= no compromise but needs early delivery 
4= to suit women and staff

A

Discussion and informed consent, Documentation, FBC and G+S, antibiotic prophylaxis, prep theatre, skin cleaned and prep
