What is the difference between monozygotic and dizygotic twins?
Monozygotic= uniovular Dizygotic= Binovular Monozygotic= splitting of zygote Dizygotic= Two eggs
What are the risk associated with multiple pregnancy?
Anaemia, Pre-Eclampsia, GDM, prematurity, placenta insufficiency and PPH
What antenatal care should be given to women with multiple pregnancy?
Asses mental health, nutrition, GTT and BP
What labour care should be given to women with multiple pregnancy?
Offer SVD (if both cephalic or one breech with ECV), CTG, delay birth of twin 2, prevent asphyxia
What should you be aware of for women with multiples during labour?
Increased PPH risk, increased sepsis risk and increased PROM
What is the role of a midwife in looking after women with multiple pregnancy?
Guidance, discuss changed (physical and emotional), advice re pain and encourage support group
