C6: The Rate And Extent Of Chemical Change (triple) Flashcards
How does the collision theory explain rate of reaction?
The more collisions, the faster the reaction.
Energy is transferred during the collision.
Particles have to collide with enough energy to react.
What are the 4 ways to increase the rate of reaction?
Increase temperature
Increase concentration or pressure
Increase surface area of reactants
Use a catalyst
Rate or reaction =
Amount of reactant used up or amount of product formed / time
How can rate of reaction be recorded?
Precipitation or colour
Change in mass
Volume of gas given off
How do reversible reactions respond to change?
They will try to counteract the change.
If temperature decreases it will move in the exothermic direction
If pressure increases the equilibrium tries to decrease it
If increase the concentration of the reactants the reaction makes more product
