Q

What is a strong or weak acid?

A

When referring to an acid as strong or weak you are reffering to the proportion of the acid molecules ionise in water

Q

What is meant by rate of reaction?

A

It is a measure of how quickly a reaction happens
Particles must collide with enough energy in order to react

Q

How do you increase rate of reaction?

A
  • Increase temperature-when temp is increased the particles move faster so more frequent collisions
  • Increase concentration-there are more particles of reactans in the same volume making collisions more likely
  • increase pressure-the particles become more crowded frequency of collisions increases
  • Using a catalyst- speed up rate of reaction by decreasing the activation energy needed for the reaction to occur

Q

What is equillibrium?

A
  • Equilibrium is when a reaction is reversible
  • meaning the products can react with each other to produce the reactants
  • the position of equilibrium can be on the left or the right(meaning the concentration is more on one side than the other)

Q

What is atom economy?

A

Tells you how much of the reactants is used up in a reaction
Atom economy=relative formula mass of desired products / relative mass of all reactants

Q

What is the haber process?

A
  • It is used to make ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen
  • Has equillibrium
  • Important because ammonia produced makes nitrogen based fertilisers- so we are able to grow the food we need to feed human
  • Exothermic reaction

Q

What is dynamic equilibrium?

A
  • Le chateliers principle-A change in one of the variables that describe a system at equilibrium produces a shift in the position of the equilibrium that counteracts the effect of this change.

Q

What are NPK fertilisers?

A
  • They are a fertiliser substance that is applied to soil in order to supply plants with nitrogen
  • A formulated fertilisr are used nowadats but in the past used to be cow waste
  • It contains nitrogen, phospurus and potassium
