Skills required to be an ed psych
Communication- need to be able to listen carefully and speak to people comfortably. Training covers skills such as empathic listening
Empathic listening and training
Listening to person so that there is real understanding. Involves responding in a way that shows you have listened. Training includes role play to practise communication skills.
Qualifications required to be an ed psych
1) Psychology degree that is recognised by BPS
2) Experience involving education (doesn’t have to be teaching). Previously they needed to train as teacher and do 2 years of teaching before a Masters degree
3) 3 year doctorate in educational psychology
Chartered status and ed psychs
If they are chartered (satisfied requirements of BPS), then they have to prove their continuing professional development in the course of their work
