+ 4 African American students from the North Carolina Agriculture and Technology college sat at the whites only counter at Woolworths department store in Greensboro
+ They were asked to leave however the students refused and sat there patiently until the shop closed
+ on the 2nd Feb the same 4 students walked in and sat at the Lunch counter and were joined by another 25 students
+ on the 3rd Feb 80 more students joined them
+ on the 4th Feb there were over 300 students. they spread to other towns in Carolina and finally to other towns in the whole of the south with over 70,000 participants
