C2 Exothermic and Endothermic Flashcards
What is an exothermic reaction?
Reaction that gives out heat energy
( products have less stored energy than reactants )
What happens to the temperature in an exothermic reaction?
Temperature increases
(feels warm)
Give an example of an exothermic reaction?
Combustion ( burning)
Acids with alkalis
Magnesium with acid
Respiration
What is an endothermic reaction?
Reactions that takes in heat energy (from the surroundings)
( products have more stored energy than reactants )
What happens to the temperature in an endothermic reaction?
Temperature decreases (feels cold)
Give an example of an endothermic reaction?
Potassium chloride with water
Citric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate ( sherbet )
photo synthesis
cooking
electrolysis
polymerization
What is a reversible reaction?
Reaction can go in both directions
Both the forward and reverse reactions can take place
What is the reversible reaction symbol?
