Korean company with operations based in Poland. Management korean and workers polish. Had problems:
- low productivity/operating rates
- high defect ratio
- poor reputation and high turnover
Employees:
- low motivation
- low satisfaction
- Problems in communicating
- low trust.
How would you describe the differences between leadership styles that managers are expected to exhibit in South Korea and in Poland?
Poland:
- like to have some private time
- work only when work is needed (no necessary overtime)
Korea:
- show little effort to establish rapport or sympathy
- showing no respect to the local standards of polish culture
- Importance of building relationships and friends
Overtime is a must
- important to preserve reputation and not lose but save face
- distanced atmosphere
Which practices commonly used in South Korea for team building and emotions among co-workers would be less effective in Poland?
Which team building practices should they use instead ?

Instead:
Managers should communicate more/praise the employee’s good work more
Provide examples illustrating how HRM practices common for south korea but not for Poland reflect the differences between these countries on Hofsted´s cultureal dimensions
Poland
High individualism, little interest in working longer/spending time with colleagues
- Restraint: do not put much emphasis on leisure time
high masculinity “Wanting to be the best” - more approval of managers, not so much liking what the do/enjoying time
