Q

What causes turning error of the compass?

A

The magnet stays aligned with the airplane as it turns, resulting in an angle to the horizon. ONUS must be followed when turning to compensate.

Q

What causes acceleration error of the compass?

A

As compass sits at a slight angle, the COG is not directly in line with the pivot point - this allows the COG to lag behind when the aircraft accelerates.

SAND to remember.
