Curriculum of a PT program must include what?

How many weeks of an internship are required?

A

The curriculum shall consist of a combination of didatic, clinical, and research experiences in PT using critical thinking and weighing of evidence and shall include, at a minimum all of the following:

1) The sciences basic to PT including biomedical, physical, physiological, neurobiological, anatomical, social and behavioral sciences/
2) Clinical sciences including lab or other practical experiences involving qualitative/quantitative evaluation within the scope of practice including kinseioology, neuroscience, pathology, human development, and gerontology.
3) Treatment that constitutes the practice of PT
4) Learning experiences in the areas of administration, education, and consultation
5) Research methods including the review and critical analysis of research reports/
6) Ethical legal, economical concepts of PT practice
* Each application shall have at least 18 weeks of full-time clinical experience with a variety of patients.

If you have not graduated from an approved program or from a program not located in the United States, what must you do to obtain a PT license?

A

An applicant for a license as a PT who was issues a diploma by a PT program not approved and is not located in the US shall meet all of the following requirements in order to be licensed:

1) Provide documentation satisfactory to the board that he or she has completed the equivalent professional degree to that issued by a US accredited program that entitles the applicant to practice as a PT in the country where the diploma was issued. The board may require an applicant to submit documentation of his or her education for review.
2) Pass the written exam required by section 2636. The requirements to pass the written exam shall not apply to an applicant who at the time of the application has passed, to the satisfaction of the board, an examination for licensure in another state, district, or territory of the US, that is, in the opinion of the board, comparable given in this state.
3) Complete a period of clinical service under the direct and immediate supervision of a physical therapist licensed by the board which not does exceed 9 months in a location approved by the board. The applicant must have passed the written exam prior to the clinical experience. The board may waive all or part of the requited clinical service. During the time of clinical service the applicant is deemed a PTLA.
4) An applicant for licensure under this subdivision who application is based on certification issues by another state, may be required to pass an oral exam given by the board and to tile a statement of past work activity.
5) Nothing in this section shall prohibit the board from disapproving any foreign PT education program. If the applicant does not meet the requirements for the PT exam, they may be eligible to take the PT assistance exam.
