Wet or waxy dry
White to red
Blanches with pressure delayed
Painful to pressure only
Healing > 21 days
Requires surgical repair
Skin layers: deep dermal layer (damage to hair follicles and glandular tissue)
Describe a full thickness burn
Charred, leathery
Waxy white and black
Dry and inelastic
Non-blanchable
Painful to deep pressure only
Healing: only with surgery
Skin layers: completely through dermis and extends into subcutaneous tissue
Describe fourth degree burn / extension to deep tissue burn
Eschar
Underlying tissue visible
Potentially life-threatening
Healing: only with surgery
Skin layers: involve muscle and/or bone
