how does BN’s developmental discourse compare to AN
it starts later than AN (adulthood mostly)

Ego-syntonic?
refers to instincts or ideas that are unacceptable to the self; that are compatible with ones values and ways of thinking
Ego-dystonic
refers to thoughts impulses and behaviours that are felt to be repugnant distressing unacceptable or inconsistent with one’s self concept
whats the difference between BN and AN with binge type
AN with binge eating type
- Malnourished occasionally binges and purges
- Primarily restrictive.
BN is less restrictive
what is an episode of binge eating?
eating an amount in a 2 hr period that is definitely more than most people + a sense of lack of control during the binge eating
what are the criteria for BN?
recurrent binge episodes, and compensatory behaviours which both occur on average at least once a week for the past 3 months. and self evaluation is unduly influenced by body shape
two specifiers for BN?
partial (some criteria still met for an extended period of time) and full remission
what does the cognitive view of BN maintenance say?
low self esteem leads to concerns about shape and to strict dieting and then binge eating and then purging.
