skilful actions

what are the five moral precepts
- don’t take life
- don’t take what is not given
- don’t misuse the senses
- don’t speak falsehoods
- don’t take intoxicants that cloud the mind
what are the 6 perfections in Mahayana tradition
- generosity
- morality
- patience
- energy
- meditation
- wisdom
karuna
-means compassion, wanting others to be free of suffering, wisdom and compassion go hand in hand
what are the 4 sublime states
metta, karuna, sympathetic joy and equanimity
metta
an attitude of loving kindness to all people, about defeating the tendency to feel jealous, bear grudges and to cultivate the habit of good will toward others
6 perfections: generosity
required to give away material goods, and give protection from fear. 3rd type of giving is teaching Dhamma, help people help themselves out of fear and suffering
6 perfections: morality
state of mind practised through meditation
6 perfections: patience
understanding that suffering is an unavoidable part of life that helps Buddhists endure difficult times, also required to practise compassion towards everyone- even most difficult people, requires patience
6 perfections: energy
could be physical or mental, to have the stamina and resilience to continue to stand up for what is right. put energy into practising Dhamma
6 perfections: meditation
helps Buddhists develop he concentration and awareness required to achieve wisdom
