What is a vihara
A special place Buddhists may visit to worship alongside others. It is a Buddhist temple complex
3 main parts of a vihara
1) Stupa - sacred relics and ashes of deceased are kept
2) Shrine hall-contains the main Buddha images and place of worship
3) Monastery
3 external features of Viharas
1) Prayer flags
2) Prayer wheels
3) 5-layered stupas
3 internal features of Viharas
1) A bell or drum near the entrance of the shrine hall
2) Shire halls with images of the Buddha or maybe come bodhisattvas as well
3) Offerings such as flowers and incense
How is a Vihara used in community
Couples soon to be married visit to receive their blessing.
Buddhists worship in the vihara because it is peaceful
Monks and Nuns gather to chant and pray in a Vihara
