Bronfenbrenner Flashcards
What type of theory did Bronfenbrenner adapt?
The human ecology theory expanded on how individuals mature not in isolation, but socially - families, friends, peers, teachers, society, and neighborhoods.
What were the subsections that divided the ecology system on human growth?
The microsystem, the mesosystem, the exosystem, the macrosystem, the chronosystem.
What is the microsystem and what are some examples?
The most immediate layer of the nested system such as your family, school, health services, and religion.
What is the mesosystem and what are some examples?
It is the second layer and explains the different interactions with the characters from the microsystem. Examples can include school teachers or administrators.
What is the exosystem and what are some examples?
The third layer consists of interactions that don’t affect the individual directly but may affect them indirectly, such as extended family and the neighbors, mass media, parents’ economic situation, and the school board.
What is the macrosystem and what are some examples?
The macrosystem is the fourth layer and some examples may include cultural or societal beliefs, attitudes, and ideologies of the culture.
What is the chronosystem and what are some examples?
This is the fifth layer and encompasses the dimension of time as it relates to a child’s environment, such as a parent’s death, or internal such as physiological changes over some time. This change may influence them.
