What is bronchiectasis?
A
- Condition is idopathic
- Permanent abnormal dilation of the bronchi
- Fills with sputum - makes them prone to infection
- Chronic

How does Bronchiectasis occur?
A
- Impaired mucociliary clearance leads to accumulation of clearance of secretions
- Secretions lead to infection
- Infection leads to increased mucus production, increase inflammation and decreased MC clearance
- Excessive inflammatory response leads to tissue damage
- Tissue damage leads to dilated bronchi including impaired MC clearance and loss of cilliated epithelium
