Background
Between 1906 and 1914 the Liberal Government introduced social reforms such as the Old Age Pension Act and Free School Meals. However the Liberal reforms did not help everyone and after the sacrifices made by the British people in the Second World War there was a willingness to make Britain a better place for everyone.

1944-You had to stay in school until the age of 15.

1944-An exam for pupils at the age of 11 to decide if they were good enough to go to Senior Secondary School or Technical Secondary School.

Exam at 11 tough for working class pupils who often went to Technical Senior School because they found it difficult to prepare for these exams because of poverty and could also just say 11 is too young to have such an important exam

1945 mothers would receive financial support if they had TWO or more children.

1946 Pension age was lowered to 60 for women and 65 for men through the National Insurance Scheme.

Mothers with one child did not receive any financial support and often struggled to give their child everything it needs.

1945-Labour aimed to build 200,000 new houses a year.

1946-Labour planned to build 14 new towns.

Houses and Towns took a long time to build because raw materials were expensive and in short supply which was a huge problem for a country which took an economic hit in the Second World War which meant there were similar levels of homelessness to the early 1930s (after the Great Depression)
