Characteristics of PIETRAIN
- Spotted black & white
- Medium sized ear pointed upward or sometimes slightly drooping. Its snout is moderately long & dished
- With good muscle development in the ham, loin & shoulder with thin backfat thickness
- Good mothering performance & reproductive ability
- Its disadvantage is its weak hind legs; slow grower & its susceptibility to stress
- If available, they are prolific and adapt well to rugged condition but growth rate is slow
- Beginners in the industry should first raise native pigs and graduate to improved breeds.

BERKJALA
an intermediate between lard & bacon type; the bred is found in Cotabato. The size is satisfactory. The head is long & the snout pointed & long. The pig matures at 9 months.

The birth weight is 0.6 kg, at 6 months 9.9 kg., 34.5 kg at 1 year and a half and 66.4 kg at 2 years of age. Even if it’s fed with the medium ration, the ration, the weight will not improve.
Native Pig
