How can we support effective breast feeding?

A
  • skin contact
  • CHIN is in place
  • mother can calm baby
  • point put the instinctive cues such as rooting and head bobbing
  • mum can gently rub nipple against babies lips
  • baby will come to the breast
  • point out signs of effective attachment and give praise

What are some of the signs of effective attachment?

A
  • Ears move up and down
  • you an see more of the dark skin around the nipple at the top of your breast
  • babies chin is touching your breast
  • you are not feeling any pain
  • you can hear baby make gulping or swallowing sounds.
