Brain and Neuropsychology Flashcards
Cortex
The outmost layer of the brain divided into the lobes and associated with higher-level thinking skills
Frontal lobe
Lobe at front of the brain associated with attention, control, and decision making
Parietal lobe
Located at the top of the brain and associated with bodily sensations e.g. perception of our position and touch
Occipital lobe
The area at the back which controls vision
Cerebellum
The area that controls motor activity
Brain stem
Connects spinal cord to the brain and involved in reflexes
Hemisphere
Half of the brain (left and right)
Asymmetrical
Different hemispheres are responsible for different behaviors
Corpus callosum
the tissue connecting the two hemispheres and allows for communication between the two
Broca’s region
Controls the production of speech
Temporal lobe
located at the side of the brain and functions to process auditory information
