Prevention

A
  • Neuter / Deworm / Dehorn / Vaccinate calves before weaning
  • Vaccinate calves before shipping
  • Rest period after arrival (12-24 hrs, no more than 48)
  • Provide water and hay once arrived
  • Monitor temperature of cow
  • Perform antimicrobial therapy

  • Affects young cattle primarily
  • Prevent with vaccines
  • Diagnose by isolating virus - take paired serum samples 2-3 weeks apart
  • Treat secondary bacterial infections
