1921: Extremely hot, particularly during harvest (most villages harvested mid-way through September). This led to very opulent styles similar to the wines of 2009. The wines across Bordeaux were uniformally excellent, 1921 Chateau d’Yquem is arguably the estate’s best ever.
1928: Heat and drought throughout the vintage led to austere and high tannin wines. Merlot based wines of the Right Bank faired better.
1929: Similar to 1921, a hot and dry vintage led to a very opulent style. Wines were not as tannic as 1928 and as such viewed as the superior vintage.
