booklet revision Flashcards
What is a smooth muscle + example
A type of tissue used by various systems to apply pressure to vessels and organs - gallbladder
What is a skeletal muscle + example
Muscles that connect to your bones - bicep
What is a cardiac muscle + example
A type of tissue that forms your heart, which contracts and releases involuntarily - myocardium
What is the role of your tendons
connects muscles to bones
What is the role of your ligaments
connects a bone to another bone
What is the role of your cartilage
provides support to bony areas
Functions ( what does it do) of the muscular system
Movement (allow you to walk, run etc), Support (muscles support the internal organs), Protection (cushions body internal organs), Heat generation (maintains internal body temperature), Blood circulation (pumping action of heart, cardiac muscle)
Functions (what does it do) of the skeletal system
Support ( gives your body its shape), Attachment ( attaches muscle tissue to bones), Movement ( helps you move), Protection ( protects your organs), Blood cell production ( creates new blood cells), Storage ( storing minerals).
What is adduction + example
A movement moving away from the midline - star jumps, snow angels (arm)
What is abduction + example
A movement moving towards the midline - star jump, snow angels (arm)
What is flexion + example
Bending and decreasing the joint on an angle - upward phase of a bicep curl (elbow)
What is extension + example
Straightening and increasing the angle at a joint - downward phase of a bicep curl (elbow)
What is rotation + example
turning or twisting a bone along its axis - performing a drive shot in golf (hip)
What is a hinge joint + example
synovial joint which allows motion primarily in one plane - elbow
What is a saddle joint + example
synovial joint which supports a wide range of movement - thumb, heel
What is a ball and socket joint + example
synovial joint which allows rotational motion in every directions within a certain limit - heel, wrist
What is a short bone + example
cubed-shaped and as long as it is wide - phalanges
long bone + example
longer than it is wide - humerus
irregular bone + example
bones that perform various bodily functions - sacrum
sesamoid bone + example
irregular shaped and normally embedded in tendons or muscles - patella
flat bone + example
protects your internal organs - sternum
FITT principle and explain each
Components of fitness (health and skill related) (cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, etc) AND what test measures each component
HCOF - Body composition, Cardiovascular Endurance, Flexibility, Muscular endurance, muscular strength
SCOF - Agility, Balance, Speed, Power, Coordination, Reaction time
Tests - Illinois agility test, Romberg test, 50m sprint, how far you can jump, catch a ball with 1 hand, online reaction game
