what are some functions of bones?
A
- shape and strength for the body
- support and protection for vital organs
- storage of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and sodium
- production of red and white blood cells
- produce movement through skeletal muscle attachment
- acid/base balance: bone tissue buffers the blood against excessive pH changes by absorbing or releasing alkaline salts
- maintains muscles in position

what is cartilage?
A
dense connective tissue abundant in collagen and elastin fibers
- flexible
- cushions bones and joints, prevents fractures
- different from bones in that cartilage can’t repair itself

the connection of 2 or more bones consisting of cartilage and connective tissue. can be movable or immovable
