Bone Physiology Flashcards
1
Q
Skeletal system functions
A
- Supports
- Protections
- Movement
- Storage (Calcium and phosphorus)
- Blood cell production
2
Q
Cartilage
A
- Firm smooth, resilient, non-vascular connective tissue
- Cartilage cells and matrix is made of 70-85% water, protein and ground susbtance (protogrycans trap water)
- Hyaline, elastic and fibrocarilage
- Bones develope from cartilage
- Difficult to repair because it is non-vascular
3
Q
Hyaline Cartilage
A
- Most common and associated with bone
- Find in the joints of the body
- Forms articular cartilage for joints, nose etc.
4
Q
Fibrocartilage
A
- Strongest of all due to orientation and density
- Found in areas that require lots of support such as intervertebral disk.
5
Q
Elastic
A
- Areas where you need more flexibility
- Alot more elastic fibers
