When is bone marrow biopsy performed?
A
This is performed to confirm or exclude a suspected diagnosis.

Where is bone marrow biopsy taken?
A
It is taken from the PSIC (posterior spinal iliac crest) or the sternum.

Components of bone marrow biopsy?
A
It has an aspirate, as well as a trephine (bone sample).

Visible structures under microscope during bone marrow biopsy?
A
Very good cellular details - megakaryocytes, white cell precursors etc.

What does trephine show?
A
Trephine shows us how the bone marrow is structured with large fat cells.
Also white cell precursors exist and you can also stain for iron.
