Q

why is bone described as a dynamic tissue ?

A

It is continuously being broken down and restructured in response to structural stress and the body’s need for calcium.

Q

Once the Osteoid is laid out what happens to create the mineralised bone we know ?

A

Inorganic salts comprising of calcium and phosphorus are deposited in it to form hardened bone.

Q

briefly describe the process of bone formation ?

A
  1. Osteogenic cells divide and differentiate into Osteoblasts.
  2. Osteoblasts found in the Periosteum build bone.
Osteoblasts secrete a matrix material called Osteoid.
  3. Inorganic salts comprising of calcium and phosphorus are deposited in it to form hardened bone.
  4. As this is happening Osteoclasts are involved in the break down of bone. They use an enzyme Acid phosphatase to do so.
