• some stay the same

• actively mitotic (cell division)

What are osteocytes cells?

• maintaining bony matrix
• senses extra load on bones; sends communication to osetoblast and it lays down more osetoid and the bones become stronger

• break bone down (bone resorption)

• helps osteocytes to maintain health of matrix
• external bone surface: periosteal cells
• internal bone surface: endosteal cells
