Bone cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are osteogenic cells?
A
- actively go through mitosis
- when stimulated; creates osteoblast & bone-lining cells
- some stay the same
2
Q
What are osteoblast cells?
A
- lays down osteoid (extracellular matrix of bone)
- actively mitotic (cell division)
3
Q
What are osteocytes cells?
A
- maintaining bony matrix
- senses extra load on bones; sends communication to osetoblast and it lays down more osetoid and the bones become stronger
4
Q
What are osteoclast cells?
A
- break bone down (bone resorption)
5
Q
What are bone-lining cells?
A
- helps osteocytes to maintain health of matrix
- external bone surface: periosteal cells
- internal bone surface: endosteal cells
