body water tutorial Flashcards
what is the volume of distribution?
vd=dose/concentration in plasma
if a drug moves out of the plasam is the Vd higher or lower?
higher (we can tell because the concentration in the plasma is lower)
what is a low Vd?
0.3L/kg
what drugs have a low Vd?
cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, NSAIDs
what is a medium Vd?
0.3-1L/Kg
what drugs have a medium Vd?
sulphas, florfenicol, phenobarbitol
what is a high Vd?
> 1.0L/Kg
what drugs have a high Vd?
coxibs, diazepam, fluoroquinolones, trimethoprim, tetracyclins, macrolides, chloramphenicol, metronidazole, rifampin
is Vd constant for any drug?
yes, unless physiological or pathological changes occur (dehydration, diarrhea etc)
change in body water affect what kind of drugs?
low Vd drugs
changes in fat affect what kind of drugs?
high Vd drugs
