body planes and sectionsw Flashcards
Plane
an imaginary two-dimensional surface that passes through the body
Section
a two-dimensional surface of a three-dimensional structure that has been cut.
Sagittal
the plane that divides the body or an organ vertically into right and left sides
Midsagittal (median)
vertical plane runs directly down the middle of the body
Parasagittal
divides the body into
unequal right and left sides
Frontal (Coronal)
divides the body or an organ into an anterior (front) portion and a posterior (rear) portion
divides the body or organ horizontally into upper and lower portions
Transverse / Cross‐section / Horizontal
divides the body or organ at an angle between the horizontal and vertical planes.
Oblique
Longitudinal
The coronal plane and the sagittal plane are
examples
any plane perpendicular to the transverse plane.
