Body Organizational & Anatomicam Terminology Flashcards
What are the three main body cavities?
1) Cranial
2) Thoracic
3) Abdominopelvic
What are serous membranes?
Double-layer tissue made up of the visceral layer and the parietal layer
What is the visceral layer?
Covers/is touching the organ
What is the parietal layer?
Lines the cavity/body wall
What is the purpose of the serous membranes?
Reduces friction from organ/body movement by secreting serous fluid
What are the thoracic membranes?
1) Pericardial
2) Pleural
What is the pericardial?
The membrane around the heart
What is the pleural?
The membrane around the lungs
What is the abdominopelvic membrane?
1) Peritoneal
What is the peritoneal?
The membrane around abdominal organs
What is the anatomical position?
Body is standing erect, facing forward, upper limbs at sides, palms facing forward
