Body organisation & science Flashcards
What is the level of organisation of the body? (in order)
Chemical,
Organelle,
Cellular,
Tissue,
Organ,
System,
Organism.
What is the definition of Anatomy?
The study of the structures of an organism & the relationship of its parts.
What is the definition of Physiology?
The science that deals with the functions of the living organism and its parts.
What are the common ions of the body?
H+,
Na+,
K+,
Cl-,
Ca2+.
What is the definition of Solute?
A dissolved substance.
What is the definition of Solvent?
Able to dissolve other substances.
What is the definition of Solution?
A mixture of one or more Solutes dissolved in a Solvent.
What is a Hypertonic solution?
Solution that has a high solute concentration & low water concentration.
Solute concentration is greater than that inside the cell; cell loses water.
What is an Isotonic solution?
Solution that has the same concentration of Solute & water.
Solution concentration is same as inside the cell; cell retains ‘normal’ shape as no water movement.
What is a Hypotonic solution?
A solution that has a lower concentration of solute & high water.
Solute concentration is less than that inside the cell; cell gains water.
