Body Fluid Compartments Flashcards
What percentage of body mass is made up of water ?
60 percent counts for around 42 liters
What’s are the 2 main compartments that fluid is found in ?
Intracellular and extracellular
What compartments are found in the extra cellular fluid ?
Plasma
Interstitial fluid (between / around cells)
Trans cellular fluid (synovial fluid)
What are traces used for ?
Used to measure compartment volumes.
Such as plasma volume.
What’s starling forces ?
In the plasma you have hydrostatic and colloid/oncotic pressures.
Interstitial you have the same forces.
What regulates fluid volume in the interstitium?
Lymph vessels - taken away.
What is osmotic pressure ?
Force that moves water across a semipermeable membrane.
What ion is found in the intracellualr fluid ?
Potassium
What ion is found in extracellular fluid ?
Sodium
