Body Composition and Posture Flashcards
What is body composition?
Relative percentage of body weight that is compromised of fat and fat-free tissue.
What is a healthy body fat percentage for male vs females?
Males = 12-18% Females = 18-23%
What are 2 forms of densitometry?
Hydrostatic weighing
Plethysmography
What is the most common method used to determine body density? Describe this method.
Hydrostatic weighing
Method: Calculates the density of the body by submerging the body in water and measuring the amount of water that becomes displaced
What is plethysmography?
Method that calculates body density utilizing the amount of air displacement during testing within a specialized closed chamber.
When determining body fat, how many standardized body sites can be used?
9
Which side of the body should all skin fold measurements be taken on?
Right
List the 9 standardized skinfold sites.
Abdominal Triceps Biceps Chest/pectoral Medial calf Midaxillary Subscapular Suprailiac Thigh
Describe bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).
Method that assess body composition using a small electrical current and measures the resistance or opposition to the current flow.
Describe ideal plumb line alignment. (9)
