why do we study body comp?
4 of them
- assess decrease in body fat during weight management
- help athletes determine best body comp for performance
- monitor fat and fat free weight in oatients w/ disease
- track long term changes that occur w/ aging
3 different types of somatotypes
- endomorphy: fat
- mesomorphy: square, rugged, large/heavy muscled
- ectomorphy: linear, mall bones/thin muscles
problems with body size as indicator of body comp
- no way to tell actual body ocmp
- very muscular person could be classified as obese

dis: -skil required: measurement and choosing right equation
advan: quick, inexpensive, accurate, can be done anywhere
disadvantages and advantages of hydro weighing
dis: time consuming, expensive, some afraid of water
advan: accurate, no “fat” escapes
disadvantages and advantages of BIA
dis: hydration levels, overpredicts lean, underpredicts obese
advan: little technician error, easy for subject
