Body Cavities Flashcards
What are the Axial body cavities?
Dorsal Body Cavity & Ventral Body Cavity
How is the Dorsal Body Cavity divided?
Cranial Cavity - Containing the Brain
Spinal Cavity - Containing the Spinal Cord
How is the Ventral Body Cavity divided?
Thoracic Cavity - Containing the Heart and Lungs
Abdominopelvic Cavity -
- Abdominal Cavity contains the digestive organs
- Pelvic Cavity contains the urinary and reproductive organs
What separates the Thoracic and Abdominopelvic Cavities?
The Diaphram - A dome shape
The walls of the Ventral body cavity and the outer surfaces of the organs it contains are covered in an exceedingly thin, double layered membrane called?
the Serosa or Serous Membrane
What is the Peritoneum?
Serosa lining the abdominal cavity and covering its organs
What is the Pleura?
The Serosa lining covering the lungs
What is the Pericardium
The Serosa lining covering the heart
What does Serosa do?
Produces a thin lubricating fluid that allows the organs to move against each and the body wall with minimal friction
There are four quadrants in the Abdominopelvic cavity what are they?
Upper Right, Upper Left, Lower Right, Lower Left
all in relation to the anatomical position
list the smaller body cavities
Oral Cavity - mouth Nasal Cavity - Nose Orbital Cavity - Eyes Middle Ear Cavity - ear Synovial - joints
