House the right and left lungs; located within serous membranes
Mediastinum Cavity
Houses heart, blood vessels, trachea, and esophagus; located between pleural cavities; not located within serous membrane
Pericardial cavity
Houses heart; within the mediastinum; located in serous membrane
Diaphragm
Separates the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavity
Abdominopelvic cavity
Houses abdominal and pelvic cavity
Abdominal Cavity
Houses many organs in the abdomen including the digestive, lymphatic, and urinary sytems; spans from diaphragm to bony pelvis
Pelvic Cavity
Sits below the abdominal cavity; area withing bony pelvis; contains organs of several systems including reproductive, digestive, and urinary
Peritoneal Cavity
Some organs within the abdominal cavity are located in this cavity within serous membranes
Visceral Membrane
The side of the serous membrane directly in contact with/surrounding the organ
