Bodily Systems Flashcards
What are the Systems of the Body.
The Respiratory System The Circulatory System The Nervous System The Endocrine System The Gastrointestinal System The Urinary/Renal System The Reproductive System The Integumentary(Skin) System
What does the Respiratory System do.
Numerus Organs that take in oxygen and expel waste products.
consists of:
Upper Airway
Lower Airway
Diaphragm
What is the Upper Airway
The Nose The Mouth The Nasopharynx The Oropharynx The Larynx (Voice Box) Epiglottis(valve that closes over Trachea during swallowing)
What is the Lower Airway
The Trachea (tube that connects the pharynx to the bronchi) The Bronchi (tubes that lead to the lungs) The Alveoli (tiny air sacs where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged) The Larynx(Voice Box)
What is the Circulatory System and what is its main structure.
The system that carries oxygen and nutrients to all of the cells of the body. The main structure of the Circulatory system is the heart.
What are the four chambers of the heart and their functions
Right Atrium: Fills with oxygen-poor blood which is then pumped to the right ventricle
Right Ventricle:Fills with oxygen poor blood from the right Atrium, The right ventricle then contracts to pump the oxygen-poor blood through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs to be oxygenated
Left Atrium: Fills with oxygen-rich blood coming from the lungs, the Atrium then contracts to send blood to the left Ventricle.
Left Ventricle: The left ventricle fills with oxygen-rich blood, and then contracts in order to send out the oxygen-rich blood though the Aorta, throughout the body
how does the heart pump, and what are the nodes it uses to do so.
The heart pumps through electricity The nodes are:
The Sinoatrial Node: The Pacemaker of the heart, and it passes electrical signal to the Atria, causing them to contract.
The Atrioventricular Node: the signal that passed though the Atria then passes through this, which is then passes through the >
Bundle of His>
Purkinje Fibers.
all of this causes the Ventricles to contract
What are the parts of the nervous system.
The Central Nervous System
The Peripheral Nervous system
What does the Central Nervous System consist of.
The Brain, and the spinal chord
What are the parts of the Peripheral Nervous System and what do they do.
Sensory Neurons and Motor Neurons
Sensory: Sends sensory information from the body to the CNS
Motor: Relays commands coming from the CNS to the muscles of the body.
how is the Peripheral Nervous System divided.
Somatic(Voluntary)
Somatic: divided into the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic systems.
- sympathetic:Controls Fight or Flight Response
- Parasympathetic: Returns the body back to normal after the need for the Fight or Flight Response is over.
Autonomic(Involuntary)
