A

  • Patient needs face covering
  • Altered part A and B (avoid nearing airway)

In BLS what is DRS ABC (pre/post covid)

A

D - danger, check surroundings
R - response, shake shoulders and shout in each ear
S - shout, for help and AED

A - airway (pre), triple manoeuvre
B - breathing (PRE/post), look, LISTEN & feel
C - circulation, carotid pulse check

What are the 2 techniques use for opening the airway in BLS

A
  1. Head tilt - two fingers under HARD tissue of chin and palm on forehead to lean head back
  2. Jaw thrust - four fingers behind each angle of the mandible to tilt head back

A
  1. Tell someone to call 911 with instructions while you start CPR
  2. Tell someone to get AER and use
  3. Also comes with oxygen container and bag valve mask to use
  4. Use OAP to use if needed

Describe CPR process

A

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • one hand flat on chest (lower 2/3 of sternum) with other interlocking fingers from above
  • kneel above with arms straight and using body weight to push down (5-6 cm)
  • 30 compressions too 2 breaths and repeat (100-120 compressions per min)

Process for using oxygen and bag valve mask for BLS

A
  • plug into O2 container until bag full
  • press seal tight around nose and mouth
  • only squeeze a tiny bit as lungs fill quick and don’t want to fill stomach making patient sick and choking

How do you use a OAP in BLS

A

Oesophageal airway junction

  • insert at 180 degree towards hard pallet then twist down throat
  • make sure is right size by holding from mouth until junction of the mandible

What do you do if you resuscitate a patient from CPR

A
  • Reassess stages B & C
  • Reassure patient even if unconscious
  • Maintain airway
  • Deliver O2 via BVM
  • DONT remove AED pads
  • cover up to keep warm and maintain dignity
  • prepare to do CPR again if re-arrest
