Blood Vessels quiz Flashcards
large arteries
velocity of blood flow is fastest and site where BP is greatest
arterioles
resistant to blood flow is greatest and major determinant of peripheral resistance
capillaries
where exchanges of food and gases are made and where velocity of blood flow is slowest
large veins
bp is lowest and blood volume is greatest.
right common carotid artery
main artery of head and neck, originates behind the sternoclavicular joint, in neck from brachiocephalic trunk
left common carotid artery
main artery of head and neck, originates from the aortic arch in the thorax.
left subclavian artery
branches off the aortic arch and carries oxygenated blood up to the brain from the base of the neck.
right subclavian
located behind the clavicle, branching off the brachiocephalic and carries oxygenated blood up to the brain from the base of the neck.
brachiocephalic trunk
emerging from the aortic arch and supplies blood to the right arm, head and neck.
descending thoracic aorta
begins at the aortic arch where it loops over the heart to begin its descent that runs down through the chest and the abdomen.
right and left axillary artery
a continuation of the subclavian artery and supplies oxygenated blood to the lateral aspect of the thorax, axillary and upper limb.
