Blood Vessels, Circulation, and Electrical System Flashcards
1
Q
blood vessels
A
- function is transportation of blood throughout the body
- there are arteries, arterioles, veins, venules, and capillaries
- arteries carry blood away from the heart
- veins carry blood to the heart
- capillaries connect arteries to veins and this is where gasses, nutrients and waster products are exchanged with the cells in the body
- arteries get smaller going away from the heart; veins get larger heading to the heart
2
Q
systemic and pulmonary circulation
A
- pulmonary circulation is the flow of blood only between the heart and lungs
- systemic circulation includes the flow of blood to all parts of the body except the lungs
- the coronary arteries are part of the systemic circulation, provide blood to the myocardium
3
Q
electrical system of heart
A
- also known as conduction system
- cardiac muscle can conduct electrical impulse
4
Q
pulse
A
rhythmic pressure against the walls of an artery caused by the contraction of the heart
5
Q
blood pressure
A
the measurement of the pressure exerted against the walls of the arteries
6
Q
systolic pressure
A
highest (first) pressure occurs when the ventricles contract
7
Q
diastolic pressure
A
lower (second) pressure occurs when the ventricles relax
8
Q
b marks what structure
A
atrioventricular node
9
Q
d marks what structure
A
bundle branches
