Blood Vessels Flashcards
What are each of their functions
Arteries carry blood away from the heart at high pressure
Veins bring blood into the heart at low pressure
Capillaries exchange materials with the cells at a close proximity
What are the three blood vessels?
Arteries veins and capillaries
How are arteries adapted to their job?
Arteries have strong elasticised walls
The walks are very thick compared to the lumen to allow the blood to be carried through. They have lots of muscle
How are capillaries adapted?
They are very small and carry blood near to every cell for exchange of food for waste products. They had permeable walls thin one cell thick walls to allow quick diffusion
How are veins adapted?
They have large lumen to allow easy blood flow through the body and smaller walls as they are not needed as much. They have valves.
